Summar is an associate in the firm’s commercial litigation and dispute resolution team.

Summar has worked on a diverse range of disputes including contractual, insolvency, corporate and shareholders, construction, consumer law and employment law.

Summar has over a decade of experience in the legal field with a focus on litigation, in both local and international disputes.

She has worked on a number of high-profile and time intensive matters and prides herself on being diligent and determined in the conduct of her matters.

Prior to joining SBA, Summar worked in two leading international law firms.

Education

Summar holds a Master of Laws as well as a Master of Interpreting and Translation (specialising in legal texts) from Monash University, for which she has been recognised by the Golden Key International Honour Society – Monash University for academic excellence.

Summar also holds a Bachelor of Laws, a Bachelor of Arts and has successfully completed a Graduate Certificate in International Arbitration Practice.

Experience

Recent matters involving Summar include:

• Assisted with an appeal by a football club to the Football Victoria Tribunal & Appeals Board.
• Assisted in a time sensitive and large-scale matter before the Supreme Court with a complex family and trusts related dispute over the family’s group assets.
• Assisted in a building dispute before the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal representing the owner against the builder where a settlement was achieved to the client’s satisfaction.
• Assisted in a complex property and contract law dispute before the Supreme Court for a breach of contract of sale of land.
• Assisted in a retail lease dispute acting for the sublandlord against a defaulting subtenant.
• Assisted in a franchise dispute acting for the franchisee in defending a claim brought by the franchisor in the County Court of Victoria.
• Assisted in an agency commission dispute acting for a real estate agent who filed a claim in the County Court of Victoria for its unpaid commission.
• Assisted with filing a claim in the Supreme Court of Victoria by a liquidator against a former director (and related entity) for voidable transactions and breach of director’s duties, as well as defending the director’s application to have the matter stayed or transferred to the Supreme Court of New South Wales.
• Assisted in a defending a claim before the Federal Court of Australia initiated by a purchaser of an aircraft against the client who provided a pre-purchase inspection of the aircraft.
